Contrarily to many of his contemporaries in popular Congolese painting, who often narrate through complex scenes bursting of characters, JP Mika prefers to tell his story by focusing on more intimate scenes. Throughout his artistic career, JP Mika has been a fervent admirer of the « sapeurs » (dandy’s), to which he pays great tribute by portraying them with their full attributes, almost-life sized, in front of colorful, stylish wallpapers. JP Mika received his artistic education from two pillars of Contemporary Congolese painting, Chéri Samba and Chéri Chérin. He figures already in the Africa’s Art Market Report top 100, as « artist to watch ».
