Chéri Benga started painting advertising banners in Kinshasa. Rapidly wanting to start an artistic career, Chéri Benga developed its own style and is today being regarded as one of the pioneers of Congolese paintings. Having exhibited in France, Israel, Germany, Cuba, Spain, Belgium and Congo-K has earned him international recognition. His art narrates anecdotes of daily life that confront the viewer often with political metaphors on which the artist does not make concessions.
