Born in 1959 in DRC, Shula had to go through several major changing periods from Mobutu’s regime to the actual regime but also experience the consequences of what seems to be a never ending rise of globalization and digitalization on daily lives. Shula explores the rapid pace at which our environments are evolving by namely depicting the malpractice of politics in a mixed alliance of astronauts and fetishes, broken down bodies « à la Dali » and modern addictions. Not aiming to transcend reality but rather at representing it, the artist plunges the viewer into fictitious worlds filled with phantasmagorical scenes. Shula has earned international recognition and has exhibited in Belgium, France, United Kingdom (Saatchi Gallery and Jack Bell), in Marrakech, Moscow, in Abidjan (Cecilia Fakhouri) and in Kinshasa.
